A retired US pilot and new research raise concerns about rising health problems among airline crews since COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

A recent report has drawn attention to a rise in serious health incidents among US airline pilots following the rollout of COVID-19 vaccination mandates. Retired pilot Dr. Kevin Stillwagon, who spent years in the cockpit, points to data suggesting troubling trends beginning in 2021, the year many pilots were pressured to accept mRNA shots despite regulations prohibiting the use of experimental treatments. According to Stillwagon, there has been a 40% increase in deaths of pilots before reaching retirement age, a threefold surge in cases of long-term medical incapacitation, and a significant rise in heart failure among younger aviators.

Stillwagon argues that the injections triggered uncontrolled production of spike protein in some recipients, leading to harmful accumulation in tissues. This, he says, explains the rise in sudden cardiac arrests, seizures, and cognitive issues such as “brain fog” among pilots and even air traffic controllers. He maintains that such effects undermine both the health of crews and the overall safety of air travel, citing reports of increased near-miss incidents at US airports since the pandemic.
In his view, many pilots were placed in an impossible position: either comply with vaccine mandates and risk disqualification under medical rules, or refuse and face the loss of employment. The retired pilot warns that the aviation industry’s decision to ignore its own long-standing safety principles has contributed to a preventable health crisis.
The report is not isolated. Independent research by endocrinologist Julian Yin Viera Borges in 2023 also suggested a correlation between the post-pandemic environment and a rise in sudden cardiac deaths among pilots. Borges pointed to potential contributing factors such as cardiovascular complications, elevated stress, and disruptions in healthcare services. However, he stressed that more investigation is needed to establish a clear link between vaccination and myocarditis or other cardiac conditions in pilots.

Together, these warnings highlight ongoing concerns about aviation safety in the aftermath of COVID-19. While definitive scientific proof remains limited, the accumulation of pilot testimonies, medical observations, and early studies suggests that the issue warrants closer examination. At stake, critics argue, is not only the wellbeing of individual aviators but also the security of the entire air transport system.
